I love mantel fireplaces. It brings a space together. I am partial to limestone with a few exceptions, like in more formal town houses and old buildings in the city where marble is alright. I like my fireplaces with (women) curves like only the French make them, carved, sculpted. British and Mexican fireplaces are pieces of slab put together. I have found memories of wood burning fireplaces with family and friends gathering around, talking and playing games to the wee hours until it runs out of wood.
